POLICY ON INCARDINATION AND EXCARDINATION

 I. INCARDINATION

Permanent deacons seeking incardination in the Diocese of San Diego are expected to meet the following requirements with the assistance of the Office for the Permanent Diaconate:

A. Years of Service:

At least three years of assigned ministry, preferably without change, according to the Policy on Granting Faculties to Deacons Incardinated in other Dioceses.

B. Recommendations:

Letters of recommendation from the supervisor during the period of assignment, from two incardinated priests and from two incardinated deacons.

C. Medical and Psychological Reports:

These should be from a physician and psychiatrist or psychologist approved by the diocese.

II. EXCARDINATION

Permanent deacons are not excardinated from the Diocese of San Diego without having another diocese into which they will be incardinated. After fulfilling the requirements for incardination established by another diocese, deacons may request excardination from the Diocese of San Diego.
