In addition to the requirements of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, a priest seeking incardination in the Diocese of San Diego should also meet the following requirements:
1.
Years of Service: There should be at least three years of continuous active service in the Diocese of San Diego.
2.
Assignments: There should be at least two different assignments and letters of recommendation from two pastors.
3.
Pastors' Recommendations: The recommendations of pastors should include a statement to the effect that the pastor would accept, as an associate, the priest applying for incardination.
4.
Medical and Psychological Reports: There should be a medical report and a psychological evaluation by a physician and psychiatrist or psychologist approved by the diocese.
5.
Pension Plan: All priests seeking incardination in the Diocese of San Diego must participate in the Pension Plan for Priests and in the Social Security System, unless dispensed by the bishop.
