POLICY ON A LAST WILL AND FUNERAL/BURIAL ARRANGEMENTS
All priests of the Diocese of San Diego are required to have a copy of their last will and funeral and burial arrangements on file at the Diocesan Pastoral Center. Copies of any changes should also be on file there.
Adequate provision should be made to cover all funeral and burial expenses, including whatever extra cost there might be to have the body present for the funeral mass and cremation thereafter, if desired.
In extraordinary cases where estates of incardinated priests cannot cover these expenses, they will be covered by the diocese, provided that burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Priests are encouraged to be generous to the Diocese of San Diego in their testimentary documents (wills, trusts, insurance policies, etc.) especially programs from which the priests benefit, e.g., the Pension Plan for Priests, the fund for the pastoral care of priests, St. Francis Seminary and the education of priests.
