Worker Justice

Catholic Social Teaching has concerned itself with the just treatment of workers since its earliest formulation in the 1890s.  In that tradition, the Office for Social Ministry collaborates with the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice (ICWJ) of San Diego.

The mission of the ICWJ of San Diego is to educate and mobilize the San Diego religious community and people of faith to support issues and campaigns that will sustain lives with dignity for workers and their families by such means as improving wages, benefits and working conditions.

The umbrella organization for the San Diego ICWJ, which provides information, technical support, and national coordination on worker justice issues.

·         Center on Policy Initiatives (CPI)
Established in 1997 to promote higher standards of living for poor and moderate-income families through research, policy development, public education and effective advocacy. CPI focuses on research and policy development that address structural factors and issues crucial for linking community and regional economic development. 

 

 

Working Together

            A service and mentoring ministry of families strengthening communities in the Diocese of San Diego, in which a small group of parishioners help a family in the neighborhood make the transition from welfare to work.  The parish team works closely with the family, the family's case manager, the parish community, the business community, and supportive charitable agencies to help guide the family towards self-sufficiency.
